PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has improve corrosion resistance and can be stored for a long period, by treating the surface of a magnetic layer, consisting of a Co metal or Co alloy, with a solution of specific materials. CONSTITUTION:In a solution which consists of 0.05-2% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), 0.1-5% H2O2, and 0.0005-0.005 N (normal) sulfuric acid, a magnetic recording medium which has a magnetic layer consisting of a Co metal or Co alloy is immersed at 5-60 deg.C for 2-20min. After said dipping, the magnetic layer is washed completely with ion exchange water or distilled water to remove stuck chemicals, etc., and after stuck drops of the water are sucked up with filter paper, etc., a drying treatment is carried out at 60-80 deg.C for 10- 20min. Consequently, Co<2+> changes into Co<3+> to produce a complex stable with the EDTA, thus covering the magnetic layer surface. Therefore, the corrosion resistance is improved and a magnetic recording medium which can be stored for a long period is obtained. |
