PURPOSE:To protect a long submarine optical cable against invasion of sea water, by connecting a connecting box which has incorporated with a cofferdam device, to the front and rear of a submarine optical repeater by use of a short submarine optical cable. CONSTITUTION:A short submarine optical cable 11 connects an optical repeater box 9 and an optical cable connecting box 10 which is incorporated with a cofferdam, transmissively, electrically and mechanically. The optical cable connecting box 10 is constituted of a pressure resistance cylinder 2, a cable anchor device 7, an optical cable 8, an optical fiber core 13, a fiber connecting part 14, and a cofferdam 15, as shown in the figure. For instance, in case when sea water has intruded into the repeater box due to breakage of the bellows, intrusion of sea water into a long cable 12 can be prevented by the cofferdam 15 in the connecting box 10, although sea water intrudes into the short optical cable 11. In this way, the long submarine optical cable 12 can be protected by the connecting box 10. |
