PURPOSE:To increase cooling effect and improve working environment and electrode life by providing the groove communicating with the water feed holes pierced in a substrate in the joint areas of the disc-form substrate and outer ring plate and circulating a cooling water to the inside of the heating region. CONSTITUTION:A welding electrode 1 is formed by a disc-form substrate 2 of copper alloy or the like and an outer ring plate 7 of chromium copper or the like. A water-feed groove 3 of concave-form in section is provided along the circumferential direction of the substrate 2 and the water-feed holes 4 connecting between the groove 3 and center hole 6 are radially pierced in the substrate 2. The outer ring plate 7 is fitted to the outside circumferential end face of the substrate 2 and these are welded W by a heat source of high heat energy density such as electron beam to complete the electrode 1. Seam welding work is done while cooling water is being circulated from the center of the electrode 1 to the inside of the heating region close to the end. the replacement of the outer ring plate 7 becomes simple owing to the construction of this electrode 1 and its re-use becomes possible. |
