PURPOSE:To obtain a porous metal catalyst having excellent catalytic activity for oxidation reactions by growing and forming a metal oxide on the surface of a porous metal prior to the baking of a metal such as platinum, etc., on the porous metal support. CONSTITUTION:The porous metal 1 as a support is heat-treated in air or oxygen atmosphere, or treated by an oxidant, e.g., ozone, potassium permanganate, etc., to grow and form the metal oxide 4 on the surface of the porous metal support 1. Then, the catalytic metal 5 such as platinum, rubidium, etc., is supported and baked on the metal oxide 4 to a porous metal catalyst for oxidation. The catalyst is free of problems, e.g., deficient adhesion of metal oxide and has, therefore, excellent catalytic activity for various oxidation reactions. |
