PURPOSE:To obtain a stable cell having a long life by forming a transparent electric conductor layer as a lower electrode, a crystalline WO3 layer, a dielectric layer, an amorphous WO3 layer and a transparent electric conductor layer as an upper electrode on a transparent substrate in order. CONSTITUTION:This cell structure consists of transparent electric conductor layer 12 as a lower electrode, crystalline WO3 layer 13, dielectric layer 14 of Cr2O3, amorphous WO3 layer 15 as an EC substance layer for display and transparent electric conductor layer 16 as an upper electrode formed on transparent substrate 11 in order. When a display is decolored, layer 13 holds protons, in the layer by EC reaction, which are released from layer 15 and passed through layer 14, and the reduction of layer 12 by protons is inhibited. Thus, by the function of crystalline WO3 layer 13 the deterioration of the lower electrode due to reduction can be prevented. |
