Phenylalkylsulphones of the formula <IMAGE> in which R denotes hydrogen or halogen, or alkyl having 1 to 4 C atoms, R1 denotes alkyl having 1 to 4 C atoms, and R2 denotes hydrogen and, in the case where R is hydrogen or alkyl, also nitro, are obtained by reacting a corresponding sulphinic acid, or one of its salts, with a dialkylalkane phosphonate.
