DETECTOR FOR LITHIUM METAL

An alkali metal detector is modified to operate with a filament electrode temperature of 1000 DEG C or greater to detect lithium atoms and lithium compounds present in a gas. The filament electrode 7, eg. a MoSi2- cermet wire coated with SiO2, may be heated to 1100 DEG C or above using a variable voltage power supply 15 with an ammeter 10 for calibration purposes.
