The dye, based on at least one laser dye molecule, has at least one fluorescence dye molecule residue whose fluorescence region overlaps as much as possible with the absorption region of the laser dye molecule residue and which is linked to the laser dye molecule residue directly or via bridging elements of at most 20 ANGSTROM length in such a manner that the pi -electron systems of the individual laser dye and fluorescence dye molecule residues do not form any conjugation system which is capable of joint mesomerism (structural resonance). This dye has a high efficiency and a long useful life when used in dye lasers.
