A light switch by means of which light is automatically switched on when one is moving in the room or hallway is not available on the market (as far as is known). For example, staircase illumination is predominantly manually controlled by means of a light switch (often containing an orientation lamp) in connection with a timing switch. There are also radar devices for surveillance purposes and for door opening systems. Manually switching on light has a number of disadvantages, for example awkward searching for light switches, mechanical wear of the switch and so forth. Public systems are frequently continuously illuminated which means high power losses. The invention is based on the object of proposing a light switch which automatically and contactlessly switches on light when a person is moving in the room or is passing by. According to the invention, this object is achieved by the fact that a power switch, preferably a thyristor, is connected to a proximity switch, for example in accordance with the radar, infrared or ultrasonic principle. <IMAGE>
