When using façade-insulating panels in the form of plaster-carrier panels for the heat insulation on the exterior side of the façade, the achievable insulating thickness is restricted in that the insulating material has only a restricted mechanical load-bearing capacity and, from a thickness of not more than 10 cm, can no longer support the exterior plaster in a sufficiently stable manner. By using a load-bearing structure, for example comprising H-beams, for spacing purposes, the invention provides a multiplicity of retaining surfaces which are at a distance from the exterior surface of the backing and on which conventional plaster-carrier panels of restricted thickness can be fastened, for example via bonding mortar and additional mechanical fastening means. The interspace between the retaining surfaces and the exterior surface of the backing is then available for fitting a further heat-insulating material which need not be loaded mechanically and is loaded only insofar as this is expedient in the individual case for additionally securing the plaster-carrier panels. By a special design of the heat-insulating material, for example of compressed mineral-fibre panels with fibres lying transversely with respect to the backing, the heat-insulating material can, however, also assume a securing function for the plaster-carrier panels, and the retaining surfaces can be arranged at a greater distance from one another. When using heat-insulating material in a thickness which is double that of the plaster-carrier panels, then insulating thicknesses of more than 30 cm altogether can be achieved over the exterior surface of the backing.
