PURPOSE:To miniaturize and integrate devices and to improve transmission performance by incorporating an optical branching part and electric control modulating parts for respective branch lines in line constitution. CONSTITUTION:A branching part 8 for the purpose of passive branching of light beams is provided at the beginning of thin film lines. Since a thin film 7 and a substrate 6 have an electrooptic effect, for example, cutoff type switches 9 are disposed as electric control modulating parts for the respective thin film branch lines 7a and the electrodes 10 and 11 thereof are connected to the common and respective channels of a control signal generating circuit 12. When applied with voltages to the electrodes 10, 11, the switches 9 increase the refractive indices of the inter-electrode spacings, thereby connecting the interrupted thin film branch lines 7a. It is possible to miniaturize and integrate the devices and to improve the transmission performance by incorporating the optical branching part and the electric control modulating parts for the respective branch lines into the line constitution in this way. |
