PURPOSE:To obtain a lead battery with an excellent power characteristic by pressing a lath, which is prepared by subjecting a lead alloy sheet to expanding work, into a thickness which is below the thickness of the said sheet so that rails are arranged on the same plane, so as to enable a light thin grid to be obtained. CONSTITUTION:A grid is pressed into a thickness (T') which is below the thickness of an unexpanded lead alloy sheet. Rails 3 and 3' are pressed and deformed from an original slit width. A knot 4 is made thin by being pressed to half its original thickness. Therefore, the rails 3 and 3' and the knot 4 are as thin as the grid despite the face that an expanded lath is used. In addition, since the knot 4 is not only hardened but also widened in area and is firmly joined to the rails 3 and 3', the knot 4 itself the joint between the knot 4 and the rails 3 and 3' have an excellent corrosion resistance. Besides, since the rails 3 and 3' are directly connected on the same surface, the charge-and-discharge current reaches to a plate lug through a short route, and voltage decrease caused during large- current charge-and-discharge becomes small. |
