This levelling device has a closed housing having at least one domed or curved transparent wall provided with a marking. The housing has a filling with a plurality of media. The first medium has low density. The second medium has a liquid medium and has a comparatively greater density. Between the media, a clearly visible phase boundary is formed which can be brought to coincide with the marking. To achieve the object of being able to use such a levelling device both when viewed from the top and from the bottom, it is proposed according to the invention that the housing (1) also contains a third medium (7) with a comparatively even greater density. Between the third and second liquid medium, a phase boundary is also formed which can be made to coincide with the marking. A sphere, particularly a steel sphere, is suitably used as the third medium. <IMAGE>
