The invention relates to a box stand for stabled animals, in which, after release of a lock, the entrance to the feed trough and the rear side of the stand are opened by the animals themselves. Above the side walls, a rail is in each case arranged movably in the longitudinal direction and fixably in both end positions, which rails are rigidly interconnected by at least one connecting web to form a rail pair which bears the head-side end wall and the rear end wall. The head-side end wall is arranged in a fixed manner on the front ends of the rail pair and movably with this, with the height position remaining constant, in the longitudinal direction. The rear end wall is designed as a sliding door which is arranged vertically movably in guide bushes. The rail pair and the sliding door are interconnected by structural elements for translating the horizontal movements of the rail pair into perpendicular movements of the sliding door. The rail pair is connected to the side walls by a manually releasable return catch which engages automatically in the front end position and by a manually releasable forward catch which engages automatically in the rear end position.
