Resistance-type gas sensor and method of producing it

A description is given of a resistance-type gas sensor element for determining the concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine along with a sensor for installing the same. The gas sensor element comprises a base plate composed primarily of a ceramic material and has two arm sections, resistance sections formed on the arm sections, a ceramic coating layer formed on the base plate provided with the resistance sections, a catalytic layer provided on the ceramic coating layer of one arm section, a heat compensation layer provided on the ceramic coating layer of the other arm section, a heating element located in the vicinity of the arm sections, and conductor wires for recording the changes in the resistance of the resistance sections and for forming a Wheatstone bridge circuit. A method of producing such a sensor is also described.
