The invention relates to a device for holding fuel elements of a nuclear reactor, it being the case that connecting elements are fitted at the top and bottom of the fuel elements in each case, and that each fuel element is held at its upper end by an upper tie plate and at its lower end by a fuel-element anchoring member situated above a reactor-core support plate. This device is configured such that the fuel-element anchoring member has a hollow cylindrical part, and that the upper and lower end regions of the lower connecting element are extended to form cylinders of substantial extent, the upper extension cylinder surrounding the fuel rod cluster of the fuel element and bearing in a leakproof fashion against the channel cladding of the fuel element, and the lower extension cylinder being inserted into the hollow cylindrical part of the fuel-element anchoring member.
