The dobby according to the invention is intended for use in high-speed weaving machines, especially in weaving machines intended for producing heavy fabrics. The dobby contains a reversing shaft (1) with a longitudinally extending radial groove (2), in which a slide (3) is accommodated. Attached freely on the shaft (1) is a gearwheel (13) which is provided with a plurality of radial grooves (14) for the slide (3). The slide (3) is kinematically connected to a program device. Suspended parallel to the shaft (1), on tension links (23, 24) fastened to the dobby in an articulated manner, is an axle (22), on which is freely attached an eccentric (16) which is surrounded freely by a crank rod (20) connected to the heald frame of the weaving machine by means of a linkage. Arranged freely on the axle (22) is a further gearwheel (15) which is rigidly connected to the eccentric (16) and which is in engagement with the gearwheel (13) arranged on the shaft (1). The axle (22) is connected to a means for varying the axial spacing between the axle (22) and the shaft (1), so that, when the slide (3) is changed over, the gearwheels (13, 15) can be partially brought apart from one another. <IMAGE>
