PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of air bubbles in a print head or the breakdown of a strain gauge, even when not in use for a long period of time, by filling the print head with a protection liquid in place of ink. CONSTITUTION:When an ink jet printer is not in operation or a print head is not attached to the printer, a common ink chamber 3 and pressure chambers 4a, 4b...4l in the print head are filled with a protection liquid in place of ink. The preferable kind of the protection liquid is polyhydric alcohols, e.g., ethylene glycol. Since these polyhydric alcohols have hydroscopic property, low-vapor pressures, and thickening property, the permeability to the flexible thin films (a) and 14 is very small, and therefore, the evaporation of the liquid does not occur almost from nozzles 6a...6l, no breakdown of strain gauges 11 and 12 occurs, and no bubbles are generated in the print head. |
