Drying apparatus in which heated air for a drying chamber 7 is heated by a solar collector 1 through which air is drawn by means of a fan 2. A temperature probe 6 is situated in the exhaust of the drying chamber 7 and controls a valve 8 situated in a divert pipe 9 leading off the main duct 3. Air diverted into pipe 9 may be vented, or preferably utilised elsewhere, or stored in a heat store. If required, additional heat may be supplied by a heater 4 controlled by a temperature probe 11. In the illustrated embodiment, air may be split into two paths after leaving heater 4, one being passed along conduit 18 to provide heated air at an intermediate drying stage, and the other being passed, optionally via a further heater 20, to the main air input 14. <IMAGE> |
