The invention relates to a device for preventing the dead play of the spool of a fishing rod reel, in particular double-bearing reel, with a frame, reel side plates secured on both sides of the frame, and a spool which is seated in the frame and is supported between the reel side plates, at least one of the reel side plates forming a one-piece reel side-plate housing out of which the various individual parts cannot fall and which is mounted removably on the frame, which has an opening which permits the insertion and removal of the spool when the reel side-plate housing is removed. If the brake mechanism is arranged within the reel side plate which is provided with the spool drive mechanism, not only is the diameter of the driving gear wheel and of the clutch construction limited but the permanent magnet can also attract iron-containing sand which then gets into the spool drive mechanism, impairs its operation and is difficult to remove. To solve this problem, a nonmagnetic conductor is arranged on a flange side face of the spool situated on the side of an opening which is formed in the frame and serves for the insertion or removal of the spool, and magnetic pole bodies are provided on the lateral surface of the reel side-plate housing in the region of the said lateral opening and these pole bodies face the nonmagnetic conductor, with the result that a small gap is formed between them, an eddy current thereby being produced in the nonmagnetic conductor when the spool rotates. |
