PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a synthetic raw material of vitamin B1 and other pharmaceuticals, easily and economically, without using a strongly toxic raw material, by contacting ethylenecyanohydrin with ammonia and oxygen in vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:A mixed gas composed of ethylenecyanohydrin, ammonia, an oxygen-containing gas such as air, and if necessary, steam or inert gas, is used as the reaction raw material, and is contacted with a metal oxide catalyst containing Mo and V at 300-600 deg.C, preferably 350-500 deg.C for 0.01-20sec, preferably 0.1-5sec to obtain the objective compound. The molar ratios of ethylenecyanohydrin : ammonia : oxygen are 1:(0.3-5):(0.5-10), preferably 1:(0.5-2): (0.8-2). |
