PURPOSE:To perform high speed processing and to reduce the number of transmission bit, by performing encoding for a changing picture element a2 in the horizontal mode, before a changing picture element b1 of a referring line is detected or when the changing picture element a2 of encoded line is detected at the same time at the detection. CONSTITUTION:Compressed data inputted from an input bus IRB is inputted to line memories LM1 and LM2 where reference line data and encoded line data are respectively stored via a shift register SR1. The output of the LM1 and LM2 is inputted to a changing point detection circuit CPD, where changing picture elements a1, a2, b1 and b2 on the reference line and the encoded line are detected. The changing point is checked at an address counter AC, and before the changing picture element b1 of the reference line is detected, when the changing picture element a2 of the encoded line is detected, the run length of a0, a1, and a1a2 obtained at the counters C1 and C2 is applied to an address producing circuit AG, a compression code table CT is accessed for the encoding of the horizontal mode. |
