<p>PURPOSE:To decrease the power consumption of a decoder, by splitting the decoder and a memory array into a plurality of blocks, making the only block including a selected cell active, and decreasing the power for the other blocks. CONSTITUTION:An EPROM device is split into two blocks BLK1 and BLK2. Memory arrays 1'-1 and 1'-2 of each block are split along a word line and correspond to M/2 rows and N columns. Load decoders 2'-1 and 2'-2 are also split but decoders 3'-1 and 3'-2 and column gates 4-1 and 4-2 are not split. When memory cells of the memory cell array 1'-1 of the block BLK1 is selected with block signals BK1 and BK2, the power for the row decoder 2'-2 and the column decoder 3'-2 is reduced and no current flows. When the memory cell of the memory cell array 1'-2 of the block BLK2 is selected, the operation is inversed.</p> |
