PURPOSE:To eliminate the waiting time in case when a data process jumps over a cylinder, by setting the head record of the contiguous cylinder at the position jumped by an extent equivalent to the seek time of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:A disk 2' has a sector type, and the record of each cylinder 10 consists of 64 records R0-R63. An address is given to the initialization of an outter circumference cylinder 10 like the record R0, and the address of the record R0 of the next cylinder 10' is positioned at the position diagonal to a center point O. In the same way, the addresses of the records R0 of the 3rd and subsequent cylinders are positioned at the positions diagonal to the center point O. Then a head 7 has a half round from the record R0 to R30 of the cylinder 10 and goes to the next cylinder. When such positioning of the head is over, the desired record arrives immediately. Thus the waiting time for the desired record is reduced down to a half from the conventional time 25ms. |
