PURPOSE:To eliminate the interruption of the data transfer owing to the positioning of a head, by providing two sets of heads which are positioned independently for an even number of cylinders and an odd number of cylinders respectively. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic heads 19a and 19b are set contiguously to each other in the circumference direction of a magnetic disk. The head 19a has an access to the even-number cylinder (n), and the head 19b has an access to the odd-number cylinder (n-1) before the head 19a. When it is supposed that the access of the final record is already over, the head 19b is positioned before the head 19a finishes the access to the final record of the cylinder (n). Thus an access is possible to the cylinder (n+1) at the position shown by a dotted line. Accordingly the head 19a is changed to the head 19b by an even/odd cylinder switching circuit and as soon as the access is over to the final record of the cylinder (n). As a result, a continuous access is possible to the cylinder (n+1) from the cylinder (n). |
