The mechanism for opening/closing doors, windows etc. comprises a floating mounting (64) for a motor (70) and an endless screw (62) contained in the door jamb (4) about which the door leaf (1) pivots. The free end of lever (25) attached to the door leaf moves along the endless screw (62) as the screw rotates to open/close the door. The floating mounting pref. pivots about a vertical axis (68) parallel to the pivotal axis of the door. The vertical axis (68) pref. passes through the end of the endless screw (62) which is supported by flanges (69) contained within the jamb.
