<p>PURPOSE:To simply manufacture an inexpensive 2-layer type and guest-host type liq. crystal display element of high contrast in a high manufacturing yield while simply forming the transparent electrodes and simply leading the electrically conductive wires to external connecting terminals. CONSTITUTION:The parts of liq. crystal orienting layers on both surfaces of an intermediate glass substrate 1 corresponding to display parts are formed with horizontally orienting layers 3A, 3B of the same shape which are thin polyvinyl alcohol films obtd. by patternwise exposing photosensitive polyvinyl alcohol layers at the same time, and the parts of the liq. crystal orienting layers corresponding to background parts are formed with vertically orienting layers obtd. by treating the films with a vertically orienting agent. Thus, an inexpensive 2- layer type and guest-host type liq. crystal display element of high contrast can be simply manufactured in a high manufacturing yield. Since a pattern to be displayed is determined by the pattern of the orienting layers, the formation of the transparent electrodes 2a, 2b and the wiring of the electrically conductive wires can be carried out simply.</p> |
