PURPOSE:To easily find out a failure in a recognition circuit, by generating a failure detection signal based on the degree of coincidence of the result of collation, through the collation of reading data of all balck with distinguished light source with a standard character. CONSTITUTION:In checking a recognition circuit 5 of an optical character reader, an operation check signal is applied to a failure detection control sectin 10 and a lamp illumination instruction signal is transmitted to a lamp control section 11 from the section 10. A lamp 1 is illuminated with the section 11 and immediately distinguished, an analog signal with the state scanning all black part with a sensor 3 is outputted, amplified at an amplifier 4 and applied to a pre- processing section 6 of the circuit 5. A signal digitized at the section 6 is normalized at a positioning section 7 and operated at an operation section 8. The data of all black is collated with the data of the standard numreral in the file, the data with greater coincidence is given to a discrimination section 9 and the control section 10, the degree of coincidence is compared with a reference degree of coincidence stored in a buffer 10-0 and a failure detection signal is generated at diseidence. |
