PURPOSE:To perform fitting-in operation with high precision by using a star- shaped terminal member of glass-made rods, and centering the terminal of an optical fiber with high precision. CONSTITUTION:A six-core optical fiber 11 is inserted into respective triangular gaps 53b, and while the end surface of the optical fiber 11 is made coincident with that of a terminal member 5, an adhesive is used to adhere and fix each optical fiber in the gap. Further, the core part is covered with an adapter 6, to which a core coating part is adhered and fixed, thus constituting a multicore connection terminal. To manufacture the tapered terminal member 5, a rod bundle 7 of seven glass-made rods 7 ten times as thick as the rod 51. while held by a holder 81, is heated and melted in a heating furnace 82 and one end is drawn down by a sealed part holder 83. Thus, the seven rods are sealed in one body along their tangents, and the size reduction effect by the drawing secure extremely high size precision. |
