PURPOSE:To obtain a soft magnetic alloy for a reed chip having high magnetic flux density and small coercive force by forming an Fe-Co-Ni alloy ingot having a specified compsn. by hot casting, cold working the ingot at a high working rate and heat treating it. CONSTITUTION:High purity Fe, Ni and Co are melted in a high frequency electric furnace filled with a gaseous Ar atmosphere to manufacture an alloy having a compsn. consisting of, by weight, 15-59% Co, 1-40% Ni and the balance Fe or further contg. 0.01-10% in total of one or more kinds of elements selected among <=3% each of Cr, Mo, Ti, Al, Si, Zr, Ge, In, Sn and Sb, <=5% each of W, V, Nb, Ta, Cu, Hf and Mn and <=2% each of Be, Au, Ag, Pt family elements and rare earth elements. The alloy is cast iron an ingot at 1,200 deg.C and the ingot is water-cooled, cold drawn at >50% drawing rate and heat treated at >=700 deg.C. A soft reed chip for a reed switch easy to work and having >=16kG magnetic flux density in a magnetic field of 50Oe and <=2Oe coercive force is obtd. |
