The invention relates to a method for condensing steam, in particular water vapour, having inert gas inclusions by means of cooling air, the steam being split into a plurality of subflows which on the side of the cooling air are both parallel to one another and follow one another, and each subflow of the steam partially condensing in parallel flow with the condensate. In order to eliminate the risk of freezing and frost formation with a small heat exchange surface and with a reduced pressure loss on the steam side, the excess steam of all the subflows is brought together and jointly condensed by the heat which is extracted by the evaporation of a heat carrier located in the closed system and dissipated to the cooling air by subsequent condensation. The inert gases are extracted jointly. The residual condensation of the subflows brought together preferably takes place inside a common accumulator by means of a plurality of heat pipes. The invention relates, furthermore, to an air-cooled condensation system for carrying out the method. <IMAGE>
