Empennage for a KE practice round

In order drastically to shorten the range of rounds during practice firing on a predetermined flight path (trajectory) while maintaining the ballistic properties, a rod (bar) round (projectile) is provided with an empennage which consists of tubes (2) which are distributed uniformly on the circumference of the round body (1). The internal diameter of the tubes (2) is tapered symmetrically and conically from the air inlet opening as far as a narrowest cross-section which is located a short distance behind the air inlet opening. Behind that point, the cross-section remains constant. This design measure represents a Laval nozzle with a reverse flow which causes aerodynamic blocking above a specific Mach number during flight of the round, which blocking greatly increases the drag (air resistance) and thus rapidly reduces the speed of the round. <IMAGE>
