A method for determining the instantaneous output of a drive motor (1, 3) in operational use is described. Starting from the fact that this output is determined from the torque (M) and the speed of the drive motor (1), a possibility is indicated for determining the torque (M) without making use of torque-measuring units in the case of the drive motor (1) in operation. The essence of this possibility is to conduct the power to be determined via a turbo coupling (3) whose input speed (n1) and output speed (n2) are continuously measured. The measured values obtained are used to calculate the slip(s) of the turbo coupling (3), which suffices as a function of the already mentioned input speed (n1) for the purpose of determining the torque (M) from a memory (13) containing the characteristics of the turbo coupling (3). The desired output is then yielded by calculation from the torque (M) and the input speed (n1). <IMAGE>
