PURPOSE:To provide an easily producible titled composition having hypotensive action and low toxicity, by extracting embryo of lotus seed with a specific extractant, concentrating the extracted liquid and using the obtained extract as an active component. CONSTITUTION:Embryo of lotus seed is extracted with at least one extractant selected from water and water-miscible organic solvent and the extracted liquid is concentrated to obtain an extract, which is used as an active component of the titled composition. The organic solvent is selected from lower alcohols, ketones and ethers and is e.g. methanol, acetone, dioxane, etc. The extracted product generally contains 70-80% sugar, 8-9% flavonoid and 8-9% alkaloid as main components. The extract is used as a pharmaceutical composition as it is or in combination with a solubilizing agent or other general drug additives. |
