The present invention relates to a process for reprocessing chromium(VI)-containing solutions by approximately stochiometric reduction with sulphur dioxide, followed by alkaline precipitation of the chromium(III) hydroxide in which process the chromium(VI)-containing solution to be reprocessed is treated with sulphur dioxide in a plurality of reduction stages and then, after a post-reaction time sufficient for complete reduction, the chromium(III) formed is precipitated as the hydroxide, with the addition of alkaline substances, and is separated.
