A rope is of dielectric synthetic fibre, pref. aromatic polyamide, with a terminal at one end for connection to the structure and including a head in which splayed fibres are encapsulated in potting material to attach the terminal to the rope. A corona discharge element is attached to the head and located annularly around the rope where it enters the head to minimise the danger of a discharge causing the rope to burn and part. The element may be a metal toroid connected to the head by an electrical conductor, or may be a bell-mouth extension of the head in which the inside arc of the mouth is optionally continued through 3/4 of a circle to create a collar around the head at the point where the fibres emerge. The rope is intended to support an elevated metal structure such as an antenna.
