<p>Aniline derivs., (X)n-substd.-Ph-NH-CO-Q cpds., of formula (I), their tautomers (when Q is IA), and salts are new: (where X is halo, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, 2-6C alkenyl, 2-6C alkenyloxy, 1-6C haloalkyl (having one or more halo gps.), amino (opt. substd. by one or two independently chosen 1-6C alkyl or by R8-CO, where R8 is 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy or mono- or di-(1-6C alkyl)amino), nitro or cyano; n is 0-5 and when n is greater than 1, the X gps. are independently chosen; Q is 2-R2-5-R4-6-R3-3-pyridyl gp. (IB), or the corresp. 1,4-dihydro cpd. (IA); R2, R3, independently are H or 1-6C alkyl; R4 is cyano or -COR5; R5 is hydroxy or -OR6 and R6 is lower alkyl. Selective herbicides, esp. useful for cotton and sunflower crops. (I) are active against a wide range of graminaceous and dicotyledonous weeds. They are usually applied at the pre-emergent or pre-sowing stage in amts. of 0.5-10 kg/ha. Some of the cpds. also give good results at the post-emergent stage. Activity tests are described.</p> |
