Single face cladding of sheet and strip - by standard equipment and simple auxiliaries

Protective or decorative coating is produced on one side, of metal sheet or strip, by standard coating machines, normally used to coat both sides. An auxiliary line, of standard equipment, e.g. decoilers, shears, welders, cleaners and coilers etc. is set up alongside the coating line. Two coils of metal are fed onto the auxiliary line, lined up and welded together across their width. Under tension they are spot and roller welded down the sides. Coiled up, effectively as one strip, they are then coated on both sides. The combined strip is returned to the auxiliary line. The edges are cut off, and the strips septd. to produce two strips clad on one side only. It is less costly to use simple equipment to produce a double strip, coat it on both sides, then separate it to produce two strips each coated on one side only.
