The machine for making artificial flies for fish hooks includes a box (1) housing a variable speed electric motor driving a shaft (4) extending horizontally from the box. The motor has a pedal control (2) linked to it providing variation in speed from 0 to 100 turns per minute. Attached to the shaft (4) is a pair of jaws which are able to hold a wire hook. A pivoting lever on one side of the jaw rapidly clamps or unclamps the jaws. The lever rotates an arm which acts on the jaws in order to close them or open them. Also attached to the shaft are spindles which may support spools of cotton. The motor used is a 12 volt unit driven by power from a step-down transformer housed within the box. A changeover switch (3) on the front of the casing allows the motor direction of rotation to be changed.
