Spiral conveyor for extraction of e.g. flour from hopper - uses cam fixed to spiral axle to vibrate frame freely mounted in hopper and agitate flour

The extraction process is applied to fine granular material such as flour stored in bulk, using a transfer conveyor (2) to move the material from a hopper (1) in which the remainder is undergoing simultaneous agitation. The arrangement is rationalised by using the conveyor to effect the agitation and to prevent the arching of the material over the hopper outlet. The conveyor may be of the spiral type, agitation being effected by a spiral mounted cam (8) causing the vibration of a frame (9) sited in the hopper. The cam may comprise a cylindrical tube which is welded to the spiral in an offset position, may locate in a zone where spiral threads are discontinued, and may constitute an oscillating support for the frame.
