When hot-rolled metal rod emerges from the final groove in a pair of rolls it is pushed through a roller block to finish it precisely to size. It passes via an entry tube, lined up with the final groove, through two pairs of free running grooved rollers, mounted at right angles. These define the finished shape and size, producing a reduction in dimensions of 0.5 to 2%. It leaves via an exit tube followed by a support roller. A pair of driving rollers may be provided downstream from the roller block, to pull the rod through when a detector indicates that the tail end has left the main rollers. Hot rolling is a rapid method of producing rod, but not very accurate in size and shape. This device improves both. It is easy to mount to the exit side of the mill, and to line up with the required roll groove. When not required it can easily be removed and a simple guide tube substituted.
|
