1512559 Bearings WOODS OF COLCHESTER Ltd 10 Nov 1976 [2 Dec 1975] 49485/75 Heading F2A [Also in Division F1] In an axial flow fan with controllable pitch blades, each blade 3 is supported in a bearing comprising races 13, 14 and balls 12 which are held in part spherical packets in an annular cage 16 arranged so that during rotation of the impeller, the centrifugal force acting on the cage is taken on the outer race 14. The force on cage 16, which may be of "U" or "H" section, Figs. 4, 5, acts on the outer race 14 by abutment thereon, of the sidewalls 28 (in the case of "H" section), or the sidewalls 19 or base 18 (in the case of "U" section). The assembly is packed with lubricant of the same density as the cage 16 and contained within a "U" section annular housing 20 to keep the lubricant in place despite centrifugal loading. |
