<p>The invention relates to an apparatus for welding sealing profiles of plastic, which are used for example for window or door seals. Until now, the ends of the sealing profiles intended for welding have been mechanically cut to size for a mitre joint manually by means of a knife. Since, however, the sealing profiles generally consist of very soft-flexible material, the pressure of the knife often causes deformations which result in unsmooth cut surfaces and consequent deficient welded joints. The invention solves this problem by providing the welding apparatus with two laterally spaced-apart, parallel-guided, knife-shaped elements (27), which in the withdrawn position (starting position) can be heated up in gaps (24) between fixed heating blocks (18) and then can be moved together into the space between the mounts (11, 13) for the combined making of separating cuts at the ends of the sealing profiles (10) and initial melting of the same for the purpose of subsequent welding. After returning the knife-shaped elements (27) into the starting position, the initially melted ends of the sealing profiles (10) are pressed against each other and thereby neatly welded to each other.
