A simplified manufacturing method for press rings, in particular those for grinding-wheel manufacture, is proposed in which first of all a composite steel plate consisting of structural steel as parent material and a cladding highly resistant to wear after the hardening is bent into a cylinder jacket form, the extra length preferably left in the process is cut off, and the butt joint formed is welded by welding at least the outer edges of the parent material, whereupon the cladding is hardened by hardening and tempering, preferably to 58 to 65 HRC, and then the final machining of the inner surface to the desired final size is carried out.
