A device for inspecting the underside of bridges for the purpose of checking the structure or for carrying out repairs can be mounted with short erection times on bridges of different cross-sections and does not occupy a traffic lane on the bridge. The device has a narrow-gauge running gear (32, 34, 35) which, to prevent a lateral inclination, has supports (47, 48) which can be placed against the structure (28) on the underside, and on which an accessible boom (37) is mounted rotatably about a vertical axis of rotation (38). The track can extend on the underside in the transverse centre between the piers or on the cantilever plate (29), a single-arm boom (37) with a movable counterweight (44) preferably being provided. The boom (37) can have an extension (41) which can be extended telescopically in the horizontal direction and working platform parts (42) which can additionally be raised or folded up thereon. <IMAGE>
