In a filter for air and gas purification, the filter element of which is arranged in a receiving frame for insertion in a holding frame, this filter element is to be inserted in a simple, cost-saving and time-saving manner into the receiving frame and, as required, is to be exchanged just as rapidly by a new filter element, retaining the previous receiving frame. For this purpose, the invention provides the filter element with a smooth outer circumferential surface by which it can be inserted into the receiving frame furnished with a smooth, projecting inner circumferential surface and is joined airtightly to the receiving frame by an adhesive at contact surfaces accessible from the outside.
