Process for heating and storing a liquid, in particular service water, in which the liquid is heated and stored in a first storage container, from which it is removed as required, the liquid being heated separately in terms of heat conduction from liquid situated in the first storage container and only supplied to the first storage container for storage when its heating temperature is at least equal to a first desired temperature. In a device for heating and storing a liquid, with a heating device and a first storage container, in which the liquid, which can be heated by the heating device to a predetermined temperature, can be stored and from which the stored liquid can be removed as required, the heating device is thermally insulated from liquid stored in the first storage container, the liquid to be heated being suppliable to the heating device and deliverable from the latter into the first storage container for storage only when its heating temperature is at least equal to a first desired temperature.
