PURPOSE:To clean and recover residual transfer toner under a stable state without adverse influence nor toner scattering in case of cleaning and recovering the residual toner to reuse it by setting the potential of a bias roller to an intermediate value between the potential of an image part of an image carrier and that of a non-image part. CONSTITUTION:A bias voltage to be impressed on an electric field forming means in a cleaning means is set to the intermediate potential between the potential of the non-image part and that of the image part obtained when an image carrier 2 is passed through an opposite position to the means 1. Thereby, the direction of the field generated between the means 1 and the non-image part is reversed from the field between the means 1 and the image part, but the field intensity of both the fields is almost the same, so that charged toner is sufficiently sucked and the toner can be prevented from being charged by reverse polarity or neutrarized and turned to a non-charged state. In case of reusing the toner, adverse influence due to the mixing of reversely charged toner at the time of development can be removed and a stray state, i.e. toner scattering, in which toner is not sucked to both the field forming means and image carrier can be reduced. |
