PURPOSE:To obtain a novel material capable of forming an image through a physical developing method, by providing an image forming layer consisting of a hydrophilic binder layer containing a compound which is reduced to form metallic development nuclei, a compound having a diazo group, and a coupling agent. CONSTITUTION:A dilute aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of a compound, such as PdCl2, capable of forming development nuclei on reduction is coated on a substrate together with gelatin, a diazo resin, NW acid as a coupler, etc., and dried to form a image forming layer 2. After exposure, the layer 2 is, for example, brought into contact with gaseous ammonia to develop color in the unexposed area. It is dipped in an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of SnCl2 to reduce PdCl2 to Pd, and physical development is carried out by further processing it with an aqueous solution of nickel chloride, sodium hypophosphite, and sodium hydroxyacetate to form a black image 2B having high resolution on the exposed area 2A. Processing in a reducing bath may be executed before the exposure. |
