The industrial robot has a robot hand(22) which is mouted on a vertically movable body(20) moved along a vertical guide pillar(18) by a vertical feed motor(34). A cylinder applies an upward force to the vertically movabable body, reducing a load appied to the vertical feed motor. The cylinder is connected to a pressure source. Pref. a reducing valve with a relief circuit is provided between the cylinder means(40) & the pressure source so that a predetermined upward force is always applied to the vertically movable body. The cylinder may be pneumatic.
